CSA And Panel Inspections

6-01.jpg

Problem:

If you have purchased or plan to sell equipment in the Ontario electrical market, the equipment must carry the CSA certification mark. Manufacturers are required by law to ensure that equipment is CSA approved before it goes into production. The responsibility for equipment approval rests with the owner of the equipment, not the seller. We often see a ULc sticker on the inside of a panel, giving the impression that the appliance or system is certified. This will not be accepted by the Electrical Safety Authority, because ULc only means that the cabinet enclosure itself is certified . All equipment must have an acceptable field evaluation tag or Intertek's own inspection tag before production begins. This applies to all equipment bought or sold domestically or internationally. This Altai service is designed to help our customers meet ESA and CSA standards.

Solution:

Altai will conduct a pre-site inspection of the equipment and provide pricing for any necessary modifications if required. Site evaluation or examination differs from electrical examination. Site assessment checks will include review beyond the main enclosure, including the size of wires and cables connecting field devices such as motors, heaters and audio signals. The inspection will examine the color coding of the wires and the main input power. During the pre-site inspection review, we will verify that all components are CSA approved for use in Canada and are properly used in the panel.

When this happens, we have a proven method to help customers approve their panel and system quickly and affordably.
